Results from the world’s largest and most influential wine competition have been announced. A record year for the number of wines tasted, discover which wines won what at the 18th edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards

 

Swiss wines win Best in Show and Platinum awards

For the second year in a row Switzerland was awarded one of just 50 coveted “Best in Show” accolades:

Heida Barrique 2018, St. Jodern Kellerei, AOC Valais
(White - 100% Savagnin)

Only 179 wines were awarded “Platinum”, considered the ‘best wines in their region’, which featured one Swiss wine this year:

Gentil Premier Cru 2018, Domaine Les Hutins, AOC Geneva

Switzerland’s Gold medal winners

Another eight Swiss wines won “Gold” medals (out of 635 in total). Decanter defines “Gold”as ‘an excellent wine of great complexity and character’:

La Maîtresse 2018, Fernand Cina, Vin de Pays
(Red - 25% Nebbiolo, 20% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot)

Jet Le Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Vinotrop, AOC Thurgau
(White - 100% Sauvignon blanc)

Sassi Grossi 2018, Gialdi Vini, AOC Ticino
(Red - 100% Merlot)

Grandmaître Humagne rouge 2019, Caveau de Salquenen, AOC Wallis
(Red - 100% Humagne)

Les Domaines - Clos Corbassières 2017, Provins, AOC Wallis
(Red - 30% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc)
