The 22nd annual Sélection des Vins de Genève awards were held Thursday 8th of July at Geneva’s Palexpo in the presence of a reduced but enthusiastic crowd from the worlds of hotels and restaurants, tourism and the wine industry.
Léonie Fleury, player and swiss champion with Servette Football Club Féminin, together with the artist Jean-Luc Bideau gave the sculpture represented by a boar. The boar is awarded to the wine with the highest number of points in the cantonal wine selection. For the first time in 22 editions, two wines have the same point average with 91,83 points. It was given to Lionel Dugerdil (Clos du Château) for the Esprit de Genève 2019 and to Eric Leyvraz of the Domaine des Bossons for the Merlot 2019.
The Sauvignon 2020 "les Bois de Turretin" from the Château des Bois has received the bronze young boar prize, which is offered by students at the Ecole Hôtelière de Genève. Anne Sophie Naz and Henri Roux, students from the school, gave it to Nicolas Seiler.
The bronze fox sculpture, the prize for the favorite wine selected by the canton’s café and restaurant business, went to Dorian Pajic of the Domaine des Trois-étoiles for the Merlot 2018. The famous sommelier, Geoffrey Bentrari and the director of Univerre David Naseli, handed it out. David Naseli also presented the new wine glass with an engraving of the Geneva logo. It will be released during the Geneva Winefest.
The press prize, an engraving of a weasel, went to Sarah Meylan from the Domaine de la Vigne-blanche for the gamay 2020. The journalist Manuella Magnin gave it.
The "Tradition" Trophy, a magnificent engraving showing an eagle’s nest, rewards the winery with the highest combined average score for its Chasselas and Gamay. It is offered by the Compagnie des Vieux-Grenadiers and was given to Bernard Bosseau of the Cave de Sézenove by a member of the Viweux-Grenadiers and Robert Cramer president of the wine inter-profession in geneva.
Finally, the sculpture of a kite bird, a new prize offered by Swiss Wine Promotion for the best sparkling wine, was given to Lucie Dethurens of the Château de Laconnex by Iasmin Schmids, of Swiss Wine Promotion.
Internationally well-known artist Robert Hainard realized all the trophies.
In all, 56 wines received gold medals, from 613 wines presented by cellars for this year’s competition.
