Neuchatel and three lakes region

"In the three lakes’ region, the Lake of Neuchâtel’s banks account for two-thirds of the total production. The vineyards stretch along the lake from Vaumarcus in the south, through Auvernier, and as far as Neuchâtel and Cressier in the north.
The other wines from the region (issued for the most part from the Chasselas and the Pinot Noir grapes) come from the vineyards bordering the Lakes of Bienne (in the canton of Bern) and of Morat (in the Vully area, which is spread over the two cantons of Fribourg and Vaud).
Actually, one of the only allowed red grape varieties in the cantons of Neuchâtel and of Bern is the Pinot Noir, which produces excellent red wines, as well as the superb Œil-de-Perdrix, a choice and fruity rosé created in Neuchâtel.
The most well-known wines of Neuchâtel among the white varieties are the lively ones from the Chasselas grape. Nevertheless, the region also offers quite elegant specialities, a few sparkling wines, and some award-winning Chardonnays."

The three lakes’ region, located at the foothill of the Jura, runs alongside the Lakes of Neuchâtel, of Bienne and of Morat and comprises French-speaking cantons, as well as German-speaking ones. This situation permits the co-existence of very different cultures which are reflected in the diversification of the region’s wines: sometimes severe, even austere, and sometimes sparkling with lifelike joy.
