*Completer
A rare indigenous vine from the canton of Gräubunden, the Completer could be related to the Lafnetscha from the Haut-Valais.
Gewürztraminer
This vine is cultivated in many regions of Switzerland, yet in small quantities. The wines it produces are very aromatic, with a hint of rose petal.
Gouais (Gwäss)
The Gouais is an almost completely abandoned white grape variety that still survives in the Haut-Valais. With the Pinot Noir, it is counted among the ancestors of many important grape varieties today cultivated in the whole Europe.
*Himbertscha
It is one of the rare indigenous white grape varieties from the Haut-Valais.
*Humagne Blanc
It is a rare indigenous white grape variety from the canton of Valais. Comforting qualities are given to its wines, which are known for their high iron content. This grape variety is not at all related to the Humagne Rouge, although they share the same name.
*Lafnetscha
It is another of the rare indigenous white grape varieties from the Haut-Valais. It might be related to the Completer.
Räuschling
A well-known white grape variety, the Räuschling was very widespread in Germany during the Middle Age. Today, in Eastern Switzerland, it has largely been supplanted by the Müller-Thurgau.
*Rèze
As it is an extremely rare white grape variety, the Rèze can now only be found in the canton of Valais. It is used to elaborate the historic "vin des glaciers" (wine of the glaciers), an amber-coloured wine produced in the Val d'Anniviers according to the solera technique.
Riesling
The Riesling is a classic white grape variety from Germany. It is only found in small quantities in the canton of Valais, where it also has the name of Petit Rhin. On the favourable schistose soils around Sion, it gives very good results.
Savagnin Blanc
This grape variety originates from Franche-Conté (France) and is also called Païen or Heida in the canton of Valais. It is a rarity cultivated high up in the vineyards of Visperterminen, where the warm winds called föhn help the grapes' maturation.
Other classic international white grape varieties cultivated in Switzerland:
Sauvignon Blanc (Geneva, Valais, and Ticino)
Sémillon (Valais and Ticino)
