Ticino - Red Wines
Covering 85% of the wine-growing surface, the Merlot is the absolute king of Ticino. Some winegrowers are running trials with the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Cabernet Franc, the Pinot Noir being cultivated in zones situated over 500 m. in altitude, which suit less to the Merlot. The Merlot del Ticino has a beautiful dark red colour, a bouquet reminding morello cherry or red berries, and it is pleasant and supple to the palate, with a touch of acidity.
