CAGI-CANTINA GIUBIASCO SA
| Founded in 1929, the Giubiasco cellar played a decisive role in the rationalisation of winemaking techniques, as well as in the quantitative improvement of the wines of the Tessin region. Its contribution to the qualification of the Tessin Merlot has made it possible to increase the yield of the vines and to heighten awareness and appreciation of our wines well beyond the borders of the canton. With the aim of satisfying the demands of the consumer, while respecting traditional values, the Cellar has from the outset instigated, then successfully developed, a vast diversification of production. Red, white and rosé wines are produced using Merlot grapes, which represent almost all of the harvest supplied to the Cellar. The Giubiasco cellar also plays an important socio-economic role. By vinifying the harvest of over 500 winegrowers, it succeeds in selling almost 10 % of the canton’s entire winegrowing and winemaking production. In 2002, the Giubiasco cellar was renovated and equipped with a red vinification installation that boasts the very latest in cutting edge technology. Bellinzona and Locarno are the two districts that supply most of the grapes processed by this cellar, only a small quantity of which comes from the rest of the canton and from Mesolcina. These regions cultivate the best grapes from the old Merlot vine stock, which is what has earned its wines their reputation. Groups of at least 10 persons are welcome to visit the Giubiasco cellars, to tour the vinification and storage premises and, naturally, to taste our delicious wines. |
