Gamay
It is the grape variety that produces all the Beaujolais wines. It ripens later than Pinot Noir and is found everywhere in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. In Geneva, it even represents the predominant red grape variety. It exists as a varietal wine, especially in Geneva, whereas in other regions it gives well-known blended wines, such as the Salvagnin in Vaud and the Dôle in Valais. Its wines are vivacious and light, with pronounced aromas of freshly picked red berries. These wines are best-consumed young. |
